Divine Llama Vineyards
In 1975, two architecture students met in a design studio at Virginia Tech. Years later, they reunited to work together as architects in Winston-Salem. Meanwhile, Michael West became interested in llama farming, and Thomas Hughes continued to nurture a dream to own a vineyard. In 2006, they, along with their wives Patricia and Julia, purchased 77 acres in East Bend in the Yadkin Valley Appellation, where they planted vineyards. In the spring of 2009, a tasting room opened, nestled among five acres of vineyards and pastures for llama and miniature horses.
