NCSU Currently Enrolling Spring Semester 2011 General Viticulture

General Viticulture is currently enrolling at NCSU for the Spring Semester 2011. 

Undergraduate Viticulture Sections:  HS 423-601
Graduate Distance Learning Sections:  HS 590-003

Materials for the DE sections will be posted on-line.

Other than the field trip, there is no required face-to-face time involved.

The Viticulture course may be taken as part of the NCSU lifelong learning program. Enrollment information for that program can be found at http://www.ncsu.edu/academics/professional-continuing-education/index.php . In other words, enrollees do not have to be working towards a degree to take the course.

Laurel Gray Vineyards and Shadow Springs Vineyard, owners of the Yadkin Valley Wine Company, welcome Dan Tallman as the new winemaker.

August 6th, 2010

The Yadkin Valley Wine Company located in both the Yadkin Valley and Swan Creek American Viticulture Regions of North Carolina would like to welcome Dan Tallman to the position of winemaker.  Mr. Tallman obtained his B.S. in Fermentation Science from the University of California at Davis. From 1980 until 2000, Dan worked at several prestigious wineries in the Napa Valley area including; Simi Winery, Schramsberg Vineyards, Laurier Winery, and Clos du Bios Winery. From 2001 until July, 2010 Mr. Tallman held the title of Director of Winemaking for Chateau Morrisette in Floyd, Virginia.

The Yadkin Valley Wine Company is owned and operated by Benny and Kim Myers (Laurel Gray Vineyards) and Chuck and Jamey Johnson (Shadow Springs Vineyard). The winery is a 10,000 sq. ft. “state of the art” facility which was constructed in 2007 with a potential annual wine production of 10,000 cases of premium wine. The Yadkin Valley Wine Company produces award winning wines for both Laurel Gray and Shadow Springs, along with custom crush clients; Dobbins Creek, Divine Llama, Brandon Hills and Misty Creek Vineyards.

The Johnsons and Myers feel very fortunate to have Dan Tallman join the Yadkin Valley Wine Company stating, “Dan brings many attributes to our company. With his training, experience, and extensive knowledge we are looking forward to an exciting future in the North Carolina Wine Industry.”
